For years, I had heard tales of Bern's Steakhouse, an undercover gem with a wine list that makes the Mariana Trench look shallow. Finally, on a visit to the Sunshine State, I had the opportunity to visit and see if Bern’s deserves its reputation.

2024 LIOCO Pinot Noir Mendocino County, 90 points
The 2024 Pinot Noir Mendocino County presses out layers of dark cherry, incense, graphite and chalk in a slightly somber, brooding frame. It pulls tight on the powdery finish, leaving behind a chewy sensation. This is a very serious wine for an entry-level bottling—quite the outlier! (BN)

Kopke 80-Year-Old Tawny Port

There has been a consumer trend towards longer-aged tawnies over the last few years. I find that these wines can be superior to the more renowned vintage Ports, often a little mellower and less high-toned. They are the fortified equivalent of a warm fire on a dismal winter day.
