November 18, 2014 (New York, NY) –
Vinous announced today it has agreed to acquire Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar (IWC). Founded in 1985 by Editor and Publisher Stephen Tanzer, IWC is the oldest independent, American-owned wine journal. Tanzer will join Antonio Galloni, Vinous’s CEO and founder, as a partner of Vinous and will be actively involved as Editor-in-Chief and a lead critic.

Vinous will add IWC’s entire archive to its already extensive library of content, making the combined site home to more than 180,000 professional wine reviews and more than 1,000 articles, all on a best-in-class platform that incorporates video, interactive maps and a user forum delivered in a seamless, real-time environment. Vinous subscribers will benefit from unprecedented global coverage of the world’s best wines.

“I have known Steve Tanzer and have been a subscriber to IWC for over a decade,” said Galloni. “In addition to being one of the world’s preeminent wine critics, Steve is an even better person. When it came time to choose a partner with complementary strengths and shared values, Steve was the obvious choice.”

“I am looking forward to partnering with Antonio to bring our combined subscribers the most comprehensive, informative, independent wine web site on the market,” said Tanzer. “With five of the world’s most established wine critics, continually streamed content, a large video library and interactive maps, Vinous is clearly taking the lead in reshaping the landscape of our industry.”

In addition to Tanzer, the entire IWC editorial team will be joining Vinous. Well-known and highly respected critics Josh Raynolds, Ian D’Agata and Joel Payne will focus on specific geographic areas based on their expertise, enabling Vinous to offer in-depth coverage of nearly all of the world’s top wine regions as outlined below.

“Needless to say, I am personally very much looking forward to working with one of the most experienced teams in the business,” added Galloni.  “Our acquisition of IWC is an important step as we continue to execute on our vision of creating a global multimedia wine platform.”
